How can I design a backyard with room for plants around the perimeter

The yard contains pavers and is not very large.One side has tomato plants the rest bushes and flowers.

You can use planter boxes or containers. I would remove enough paver sections to make a variety of focus garden planting areas. Consider a water feature, bird bath, sculpture or specimen plant as the center focus in the space.
