I heard if you cover the grass with newspaper for 2 weeks it will kill it, good luck
If it is an asparagus bed, you can cover generously with rock salt. This will kill weeds. I would not recommend for any other vegetables or flowers.
If it's a small garden. pulling the weeds up by the roots will be best and then as they sprout, you can dig them up. If you cover the ground with a mulch weeds are less likely to grow. There are other coverings that look better than mulch.
Spray pure vinegar on it, but don't get any on your plants or flowers. I spray vinegar on weeds that get between my patio pavers and they wilt and are gone in days.
