I bought a beautiful table and chair set, but the previous owner was afraid the glass would fall off so he cemented wood strips across the underside of the glass with aquarium cement. How can I get that off without breaking the glass?

  • There are all sorts of adhesives used to glue glass. And each type has its own properties as far as what will dissolve them. I would suggest that you purchase a very low cost hand plane and carefully remove as much of the wood by scraping it down as you can without hitting the glass its fastened to. Then being much thinner try using a razor blade scrapper used to remove paint from glass and simply chip away at the remaining material. You can try soaking the remaining wood and glue in lacquer thinner, alcohol or paint removal chemicals. These may soften and remove the remaining glue or get them to a point that the razor will remove the material. But these products will only work well if they have a chance to reach the glue itself. So removal of as much of the wood surface you can will help these chemicals reach to the glass adhesive faster as the thin remaining wood will easily soak of the liquids.
