Need Shower Help!

I'm constantly fighting mold up under the tiles around the bottom of my shower from a previous owner's shoddy remodel. Bleach makes the mold in my bathroom grow! (Tested in toilet.) I've used denatured alcohol which has worked best but mold keeps coming back. I'm beside myself as it's affecting our health. I need to rip out the entire shower and start over, but not ready to do that yet. Is there anything I can do to clear existing mold and seal it out for now? Even hiring someone would be okay if it's possible to do. Help!

Since it is affecting your health, I'd call in a mold remediation company for consultation, and see if this is covered by your homeowner's insurance.

Oh, and I really should try the insurance route. It's just that I did that in another house and they, of course, found a way not to pay. So I don't have a lot of confidence in that. But I should try. Last house this happened in is how I learned of our mold allergy, but it seems much worse this time. Affecting breathing, etc.

Home Depot sells mold remediation products that you can spray, but the area has to be completely dry so no using that bathroom and turn on the fans and dehumidifiers . Once the bathroom has been treated with the remediation product , look into recaulking the tub/shower and reseal in the grout.

You're welcome and good luck . I have allergies too and they're awful .

Yes there is!! As soon as you get the tile and grout as clean as possible, let it all dry completely for at least 24 hours. ( I used an old towel to dry it all first after cleaning). After tile is totally dry apply grout sealer that you can get at any home hardware store. Follow the instructions completely, making sure to wipe off any residue of the sealer off of the tile. This should take care of you for a while and you just reapply according to the sealer instructions. Hope this helps!

Tear the wall out and put in blueboard. Better to be safe than sorry. You and yours can get very sick from mold spreading behind the walls in your home.
