Window treatment for triple sliding door

We will have triple sliding patio doors with screens in our new home. The doors lead to a deck overlooking our beach and lake. We'll get morning sun, and privacy isn't an issue. We'll have naturally finished hickory floors and are planning a casual lake style with natural pine woodwork, not exactly cabin/rustic but more casual and relaxed. Walls will be sheet rocked and painted a golden yellow. Any ideas for window treatments that fit this description?

  • I would start looking at linen type curtains or even sheers with an embossed or embroidered type pattern that will allow light to still shine through but be draped to give some warmth to the room. Since you are more casual and relaxed and want the view, I would definitely not go with heavy drapery or curtains. Since privacy is not an issue then you could use a nice metal rod and find grommet type or even use the rings with the metal rods so you can put the rod up a bit higher and have them just touch the floor. Look on JCP site for curtains to give you ideas-they have some great looks. Sounds like a beautiful room!

What room is this in? If you don't need privacy, do you need any window treatments? I'm thinking that most of the time you'll not want the patio doors covered so you can enjoy the view. If you need additional coverage for warmth at night, then definitely put something up. If you're thinking just for color/texture, then maybe buy panels that can be hung by rings on a rod so you can easily move them out of the way when you are opening the door.

This room is really a transition space beyond the center island in our kitchen to the deck and lake. I agree. I wouldn't want to ruin the view with heavy curtains, but we would need some type of window covering to filter the warm morning summer sun and then provide some protection from the cold Minnesota winters too!
