I would spray with hydrogen peroxide then rinse with clear water BUT I would be concerned about the long term effect of peroxide on the brick - may make it crumble and you do not want that to happen - probably why the solution is $100 a gallon.
Here is an idea - read the ingredients on the expensive stuff - see if you can duplicate it by purchasing the ingredients separately and mixing up yourself and be cheaper maybe?
$100 isn't much if you consider the life of the house you will enjoy
Judy Parker CauseyHometalker - TSP is a good product for cleaning. Read the manufacture's instructions. Are you on a concrete slab? If you can protect the inside of your home, power wash the brick and using a wet dry vac. Lot of prep work because of the water. Upload pictures with your SmartPhone it will help with your suggestions.
Have you tried hydrochloric acid? But you don't want to get any on you or the new floors. This may be a real reason to paint all the fireplace bricks. Bless you, honey. We had friends who lost everything, too, in the floods in La. 😇
