How do you make your own colored chalk paint?
-
Elaine Simmons on Feb 02, 2014Do you mean the chalk paint that you write on or do you mean the chalk paint you put on furniture? If you mean on furniture, I can help but if you mean the kind you write on, I know of no recipe for that. You can also google DIY recipes for chalk paint and it will give you several. I use the one with plaster of paris and have had good results.Helpful Reply

Comet on Feb 03, 2014You can find many recipes for this on PINTEREST but basically you use either white UNsanded grout for light color base paint--latex--and mix some of the grout with WATER to make a lump free solution and then mix with the paint. For DARK or BLACK use a BLACK UNsanded grout same procedure. Before you write on these use the side of a piece of white chalk---run it over a rough piece of sidewalk or sandpaper as some chalk these days seems to have a coating on it that you need to remove---and then rub this all over the surface and erase. This "conditions" the surface to show the chalk writing properly. IF you try and just mix the grout in it will get sandy and lumpy so you need to carefully stir with the water to make sure no lumps or uneven bits remain. Not hard just takes a few minutes. This is basicaly the same formula for either writing on or using on furniture.Helpful Reply

Cavymom on Aug 12, 2015I used a recipe using unsanded grout, needed much less grout than suggested. Didn't mix with water first but should have as was impossible to get the lumps out.Helpful Reply
