What are these holes in my yard?

The ground in front of my she'd is basically just dirt. When I went to get the mower out of the shed, I noticed these holes in the ground. They weren't there a few days ago. I'm wondering if these or some type of bug's nest. Does anybody know what these are? If they are some sort of wasp holes I want to stay away from them.

My guess is bees. There is a certain strain of bees that are borers and are harmless to us. If I am correct you can spray the area with water as these guys don't like to get wet. In my experience the holes will quickly close up with moisture...but they may come back. Check with your local exterminator to confirm.

If you have seen some rather large red-orange wasps flying about, they nest in these holes. Their sting is intense! We have an abundance of these in Texas.

I was afraid of that! Is there a way I can get rid of them? Is there something I can spray the holes with?

It could be voles. They are known to dig dozens of holes in a short time. I read that you could put a garden size windmill by the shed. They don't like the vibrations that a windmill makes. I don't think bees would make that many holes in such a short time. Hope this helps you. Good luck.

Bees or ground wasps sound right to me, although I have seen snake holes like that. I'd ask a local expert at a nursery, or your neighbors. If you have a farm supply store, take your photos with you and make new friends. Best wishes 😇

They are the burrows of ground wasps. Very nasty sting.

Most likely they are Cicada holes. They are the bugs that get up in the trees and make that screeching sound on hot summer days

This link offers a variety of options. They usually don't bother us, just buzz about a bit too close for comfort. But, if you happen to scare one with a mower or the like, they can be swiftly aggressive. 😱 https://dengarden.com/gardening/GDW

Google "ground wasp treatment ." They are known as digger wasps, ground digger wasps, and cicada killers. Dont use a powder treatment if you have pets.
