Why are my trees have dead spots at the top?

I have 3 Dwarf Pear Trees planted on my tree lawn. They are approximately 10 years old and this year we noticed that there are dead branches at the tops of each tree. Why? Are they diseased? Are they dying? What's the solution or treatment? There are 2 males and 1 female. Female in the center and she is producing runs of baby trees all over the place. These runs have gone under the sidewalk and into the lawn!

  Thank you Shoshana for the info. Unfortunately that link doesn't help. My trees are ornamental dwarf trees. They do get fruit but the fruit is the size of berries. Just the right size for the birds. The trees are smaller than regular pear trees. Just for landscape aesthetics. Thank you again, tho.

  try spraying wiyh liquid Seven you may have Japanese beetles they can strip a tree or bush over night
