How to weatherproof a bamboo table top?

I found a beautiful round bamboo cutting board that I want to use as a tabletop on an outdoor table. The base is metal. The piece is about 15 inches in diameter and will be under a pergola that has an acrylic roof. It will not get directly rained on, but will be susceptible to moisture. I'm thinking just a coat of varathane or something similar. Will this work or should I do something different.

bamboo is waterproof by nature. Use a clear spray acrylic to retain its natural beauty.

In case that you did not get/see the other post: you should be able to use products such as polyurethane, lacquer or even tung oil (a water sealant ). Just make sure to clean the bamboo thoroughly before applying anything to it. :)

Marine polyurethane is what I always use here in Florida. Salty air and sun is the main destroyer so make sure you have UV enhanced product.
