depends on what is in the garden.....compost is good, and will improve your soil. You county extension office will come out and test soil in different areas. Have an idea of what you want to plant....and they should be able to tell you what needs added and when.
Compost is my preferred, lightly scratched in next to the plant.

Tomatoes, beets, cherry tomatoes, snow peas, regular peas, cucumbers , zucs, yellow and green beans, butternut squash, red and white onions, dill, savory, thyme, basil, red and yellow peppers, green onions,
