I plant garlic bulbs in October and harvest the garlic the next year in July or August. In June a seed pod grows out of the garlic stem. This needs to be removed so the garlic bulb will grow and not go to seed.
We plant our garlic in October. Let it grow until it puts out the "flower" on top. Remove the flower and let it continue to grow. Once the leaves begin to yellow it is ready. For our area this is around the end of June or July. We use the flower part in salads etc., it is very flavorful.
Garlic should be planted in the fall, and harvested in summer-fall.
