I use a small hoe,and I stand there until he start to work again then hit the ground just a bit ahead of him, works for me .
A trap is what I used. last year he ate all my brussel sprouts, broccoli and cauliflower. This year I didn't plant any, but I used the trap anyway. Then the critter can be relocated. They are horrible.
you can try putting a plastic owl(s) in the area as they eat moles. Also can purchase a hose attachment that will spray critters in the area.
We got rid of ours by cutting jalepeno peppers lengthwise and put a piece in each new run. They cannot stand the smell and will leave voluntarily.
Lowes sells vibrating tubes that you can stick in the ground.....Got rid of my voles and should get rid of moles also. Earl May has some poison grain you can put in their tunnels also.
