How does one stop the spreading of Japanese Knotwood?

10 years ago I spotted knot wood about 1/2 mile down the road, now it is up to my house on the other end of the street. I have aggressively dug up the roots, pulled them out and everyday I see new shoots

Hello Jessie, I recommend pouring boiling water on it and then sprinkling salt on it. A lot of salt. Be sure not to get salt on anything you don't want to kill. Hope this helps you. Good luck.

Thank you. I even pored full strength bleach on them - turned them brown but they came back. Actually it is road side area and the highway dept. had ground everything down to only dirt. Makes it easier for me to see. I just don't want them to come onto my side of the road.

Vinegar is very good at killing weeds...Make up a spray bottle of white vinegar and you can use it on all weeds.

Thank you, but I have tried vinegar and even bleach - turns it brown but the Knotweed continues to grow. I am just trying to keep it from spreading to my yard. By the way, the knotweed grows 4 to 6 inches per day.

I absolutely hate the use of chemicals, however in this case it is warranted. Knotweed will not go away unless you kill each and every plant. Since this is not on your property, smothering is not an option for you. I would, unhappily, grab the glysophate and spray any green parts of the mass, from one end to the other. If you only do the section near you, it will come back. Have you contacted the roads dept to let them know the knotweed is there? They should send people out to spray it, the ones that are doing the cutting don't pay attention nor care if there is a noxious weed taking over. Give them a call and see if they will come out to spray before their next cutting. Best to wait until it is in flower, another month or so, for the best results.
