Hi Jolene, Here's a good link to read! http://www.gardeningblog.net/how-to-grow/turmeric/comment-page-1/
Good luck!
I just cut mine up and put them in soil after they scab, like potatoes. They really like it hot, so if you have yours indoors in the AC, move them out to a sunny hot place. They took a while to get started, don't give up on them. While you're at it, ginger is grown the same way. I actually buy my ginger roots from the grocery.

Hello Jolene, I cut mine, on a angle and put them into a jar. The jar is filled with luke warm water, and I put in two holes, or more, for certain that they will take root. Always make more than ONE, in case that dies. I put a baggie on it, or saran wrap, and use a rubber band. The tightness of the rubber band, will make them root faster, than eposing them to reg. air. This is just for safety, ok? It will all take time for this to take action, so do not expect this to happen over night. It sometimes takes 4-6 weeks, but do let them really show GREAT roots, so I leave mine into jars, for 2 months, then they have a GREAT ROOT SYSTEM, and I am fine to root. When you do root, use a pot, that is the red clay, for this pot is the best one to use. If you root 4-6, then make sure you give them room, to root, and begin to grow. In about 6-8 months, it will show great growth, and you can divide them, and replant them, into separate planters. I would always use 2 to plant together, for extra strength, and assurance for their growth. I also use a clear plastic saucer, that you can get at the store, or WM, it is about 35 or 50 cents each, and so I would get several of these, to keep on hand. Best wishes, J.
