I would reconsider using an old chest if it is wood. You may not be able to water proof it enough to keep from getting odorous from the smell of urine and the guinea pig. There are reasons that they normally are metal and hard plastic. Easy to clean and don't keep the smells.
Also the animal would chew on it. I had a couple of gerbils at one time. They managed to chew their way out of one of the balls that was attached to house.
