Decorative look of pennies.

I really love the look of items made with pennies. However, does anyone realize that it costs the government more to mint pennies than the penny is worth? The goverment budget cuts hurt everyone in some way or another. I just wonder how much it would save if pennies were used as they are meant to be, is it possible that the government would even have to mint them anymore?
"The penny might be more trouble than it's worth. The cost to produce the one-cent coin increased to 1.5 cents during 2016."
Shouldn't it cost less, so why not keep them in circulation and save the government money instead? Don't get me wrong, the decorative look of copper pennies is very pretty. This is just me putting me two cents (pun intended) in.
