Decomposed granite worked best for us. Pea gravel is very shifty underfoot and migrates everywhere.

Decomposed granite is great. I also have a tumbled style pea gravel, but it is packed in tight and borered so it doesn't spill out, travel or move.
decomposed granite is the best but you could also use pea gravel. Don't get anything bigger than that because it will be hard to walk on.
I agree with the decomposed granite suggestions!
