You can try a lemon soak. Either add lemon juice to your washing cycle or boil your whites with some lemons and let them soak for about an hour. Good luck!
I usually use the hottest water I can according to the fabric instructions, let the washer fill and swish for awhile to make sure laundry is soap free. Then dissolve 1/2 cup borax in 2 cups hot water add to the wash with 1/4 cup salt and detergent. When they are about halfway through the wash cycle pause the wash for about 30 minutes. Rinse twice. You should only have to do this occasionally once you get them white again. But sometimes it will take 2 washings like this. Good Luck.
Use a small amount of bleach every wash. Never wash with anything non-white. some places, it's minerals in the water, and you need a water filter/softener. You can also spray the fabric with diluted peroxide and hang out on a sunny day. All else fails, use a little bluing in your rinse cycle.
Try the Broax and oxi clean with hot water. Should help. I have to fight for whiter whites too. I have well water .
Yes, a small amount of bleach in every wash. If possible hang whites in the sun to dry.
Here is the recipe for getting your whites whiter. My Mom used to use and it works: 1 gallon of hot water, 1/2 cup cascade powder dish detergent and 1/4 cup bleach. Put 100% cotton items in and soak for 30 minutes, then wash and rinse with vinegar. For polyester fabrics let solution cool before you soak.
We have well water and after heavy rains it is sometimes not so clear. I've started using Mrs Stewarts liquid bluing, same as my grandma used and it works for me. Plus a bottle of the concentrated liquid is under $2 here and will last for a long, long time.
Bleach and hot water in your long wash cycle. And for stubborn whites, don't overfill your washer.
I use oxiclean - soak overnight, then rinse and place in the sun for a day.
I have found white brite to be the best whitener for clothes
Iron Out is they only way to go
A friend of mind swears by OxyClean.
I use "bluing" Like grandma used to put in her hair in years past. It can be hard to find in some grocery stores, but a few still carry it. If you are using well water, there might be an abundance of iron in the water... a water treatment thing to remove the iron might be needed
First, I do a pre-wash cycle with bleach only. Bleach cancels out the soap (or so I heard somewhere) and thats is why the load still looks gungy even when washed with bleach. Then I do a normal cycle with regular laundry soap only ( I do an extra rinse if I can still smell the bleach because I don't want the bleach to deteriorate the clothes) I use cold water only because the hot doesn't work or else I would use hot, but cold works just as good when using this method.
