DIY Roman Shades

Rather than spending $800+ on custom Roman Shades for our oddly-shaped kitchen window, we DIY'ed them ourselves for less than $75! To see the full tutorial, visit Home Coming: http://homecomingmn.blogspot.com/2013/04/the-diyers-and-more-curtains.html
Here's our final product!
I started with a full-sized curtain that I turned sideways to fit the length of our window. Cut off the grommets and sewed it down to size.
My first time sewing!

Great idea, but as Cynthia mentioned about raising and lowering. There is no talk about how you hooked up any pull cords to raise and lower the blinds. Can you please let us know how that was done. Thank you

Thanks for the questions! Since the window was so large, we had to make something our selves. It's not a pulley system (like blinds) but instead is a manual "hook" that we built using two long pieces of wood, that we angle cut to hook on each other. The pieces of wood are glued to the back of the fabric. Not idea, but it works. If you have a more typical size window, you can use cheap blinds as your pulley system.
