Squirrels are awesome, don't get rid of them. If you must, i suggest a motion activated sprinkler
I don't think squirrels hurt anything in a garden. They are neat creatures to watch.
Cute yes but they dug my flowers right out of their pots. Never feed them!. Might try Cayanne spice powder as a deterant but the only good way is to trap and relocate.
vinegar on rugs, they don't like the smell, and it doesn't hurt them, do this one time each week. it does help, and it doesn't hurt the plants
Adopt a pair of rescue cats or a small terrier type dog.
To control squirrel populations the landowner should reduce or eliminate all food sources including bird feeders.
To prevent digging in a garden you can cover the bed with chicken wire. The wire should be covered with soil and extend at least 1 foot beyond the edge of the flower bed.
As a last resort, control problem squirrels using live traps baited with apples, seeds or peanut butter. Squirrels are clever and may not go into a trap if unsure about it. If several squirrels are to be trapped put the baited trap out but do not actually set it for a few days so that the squirrels will become accustomed to feeding from it. Then set the trap.
Squirrels should be relocated, with landowner consent, at least ten miles from your home. Wear gloves and do not actually handle the squirrel.
Some states require permits to trap them.
As an aside, squirrels are perfectly edible. Here are some TNT recipes:

Jerry Baker, The Garden Guy in all of his gardening books always says to put out dog droppings around the outside of your garden for it frightens them off. Plastic forks in the soil sticking upward also works, as does their hair. I personally use crushed hot peppers in the bird feeders etc. and all over where they begin to annoy me at first. Squirrels hate the hot stuff and the birds can't taste it. You can purchase herbs and things by the pound on line inexpensively. Now when we see them in the trees, we know they are here to hollow them out and cause massive damage to the fruit trees. A .410 shotgun now does the job and we don't see too many of the nasty flea and tick infested tree rats. With tick born diseases on the rise every year, the squirrels and rabbits, and rodents are the largest carriers EVEN THOUGH the TICK is called the DEER TICK! Have you all learned about the SEED TICK this year? More deadly than Lyme and on the rise. No cure. And it's no larger than this "."
Don't think squirrels are cute little creatures to be welcomed into your yards.
Educate yourselves. Check yourselves and your children for ticks. Save a brain and a life. I HAVE LYME DISEASE. I've had it since the 70's before they even knew what it was. God bless you all.
You don't. If there is something for them to eat, you will have squirrels.
Shoot them!
Get a bag of blood meal from the nursery, spread through garden. The squirrels don't like blood smell at all and it also is a mild fertilizer
