I am new to landscaping my first home . The existing ground is rock and desert plants. I want to know if there are any colorful flowers or shrubs that would survive and thrive in this area.

  • Great town! My girlfriend used to live there years ago. I know you can grow roses as she had a lovely bunch of them. Take a trip to the nursery and see what they have that tickles your fancy.

Get a hold of the agricultural extension service and I am sure they have a ton of suggestions.

Janet, you are awesome. What a great source. Although, I don't know plant names, I will use this site for future reference.

Visit your local nursery and see what they are selling. This is the best indication of what can grow there.

I lived in Cottonwood, Arizona for ten years and had beautiful plush rose bushes. Oh how I miss the dry climate and the beautiful red rock landscaping with river rock dry beds. There are wonderful plants and shrubs that you can utilize to beautify your landscaping. Best of luck.

Try Heavenly Bamboo shrubs. It's a nice variety and grows well.

Hello Rabmoon; If I lived there, I would use tons of the Desert plants, as well as Succulents.

Also, I would add any other plants that will take the heat.

I would contact my local nursery and ask what they recommend.

I hope that this helps you!!! Take Care!
