How do I apply wood/plastic wall trims to my walls?

I would like to put some sort of wall trim borders on my bedroom walls to give it a update. I have no clue how to apply it. Do I use some sort of glue adhesive ? Or do I simply nail it to the wall or use a staple gun? Please help , I am having a dur durr moment. ..lol .. It is just a simple wall that will be divided into 3 sections with regular wood trim and one ceiling trim. ***excuse me for bad description ** it has been so long since I done a diy project and have lost touch! Any ideas/suggestions is appreciated.

Finishing nails and a hammer on thick enough wood trim seems the way to go, and for lighter wood trim and plastic trim probably a Liquid Nails product that has a very strong hold. Good luck!
