The best possible pampas grass control involves a combination of physical and chemical methods. Because it is a grass, it is best to first cut it as close to the ground as possible. Once the grass is cut down, you can apply an herbicide such as Roundup. Several treatments may be necessary for established plants because there will be seeds left in the soil that Roundup won't kill.
Cut diwn to the ground and apply Epson Salt. Cover the area with plastic for few weeks. in spring if they show up repeat one more time.
After cutting them down, you must dig up the roots, completely to get rid of it. The Epson Salt idea sounds good too, but after roots are dug up and discarded.
I made the mistake of planting them in our first yard. Water well and dig them up. I got a neighbor boy to help. Then had a huge mess to cart off. Good luck!
I advertised them for free with people having to dig themselves. In four days all five large grasses were gone. None have come back
Lorraine's idea is great - we got rid of unwanted scrubs when we bought this house (and they were holly)!
