buy poison ivy plant killer and spray it all over the plants leaves. If you can cut the vine where it is grows up from the ground. Wear protective clothing and dispose of any fallen leaves in a trash bag, DO NOT BURN IT!
If you are into having animals, goats love poison ivy.
When you cut the poison ivy paint the cut end with the killer so that it draws the killer down to the roots.
The for sure way is to cover up, wear gloves and pull it out Make sure you have some sort of garbage bag handy and toss it with the gloves right after. I would also take a good shower afterwards. Just don't burn the poison ivy. You don't want to inhale that.

Strip it off.
Hi Suzanne, hope this helps you. To kill poison ivy that climbs high into trees, cut the vine off 6 inches above ground level. Treat the stump with glyphosate (or undiluted white vinegar) (according to label directions) immediately after cutting to kill the roots and prevent sprouting. If re-sprouting does occur, treat the leaves with glyphosate (or undiluted white vinegar).
Hello Suzanne: Wear protective clothing and maybe even safety glasses. You can use a product called Ground Clear by Ortho. However, it will kill everything it touches, so put it in a spray bottle, or buy the spray, (the refill is cheaper, $5.97 for 24 oz vs $6.97 for a gallon Search Results for ground clear at The Home Depot) and spray the leaves, top and bottom. Put a tarp on the ground to catch any overflow. Also, and this is what I did, was to cut the plant down to about 6" from the ground, putting the cuttings into a bag. Then, I got a syringe filled with the ground clear and injected the remaining stem in several places, and the top. The plant will take the poison to the roots, killing the plant. You may have to do this a couple of times, but it works.
