Here is my way. It's very simple, but maybe it will help. 1. Wash the pine cones, even if you bought them from a store. This is to get rid of dust and bugs and help the cones open up. 2. Let the cones dry, maybe in front of a fan or blow dryer. 3. Fill a cylindrical container of plastic or glass with household bleach, like an 18 oz. Tupperware container. Dip one cone at a time into the bleach, holding the cone under or using the lid to help, about five minutes. Lift the cone out and rinse in the sink. Let the cone dry again, preferably in the sunshine. (If I want a cone just white on top, I dip the cone halfway in and use toothpicks to hold it in place.) When the bleaching is done, I decorate or embellish the cones. Silver dust, glitter, beads and jewels, pearls, canned snow, tiny birds or bells -- whatever suits me. Best wishes 😇

I rinse my cones first with clear water to remove any bugs, debris, etc. Then I put them into a container of bleach...several at a time, using a flat plate to hold them under the bleach. Let them soak for 5-10 minutes, then remove from the bleach. Lay them out on a flat surface in the sun if possible for extra whitening power. After they have dried, you can bleach them again if they are not as light as you want. Don't leave them more than 5-10 minutes each time because they can become soggy or brittle.
