Hello Cindy; Please go to a Craft store of your choosing. Pick out what you like.
If I were doing this, I would make a test patch on a scrap piece of wood.
I would then lay it on my floor and see how it looks and if it is the look or pattern that I truly love and want.
I hope that this helps you!!! Take Care!
A good quality stencil that can be used multiple times and easily cleaned is best. I plan on doing this sometime in the near future in my craft room, and I plan to use a larger stencil, as it will be easier on my knees and back. Here's one I'm thinking of:

Plastic/vinyl stencils work the best because you can periodically wash them off to remove paint build-up. This helps keep your design nice and clean and precise.

make sure to use heavyweight stencils, and get a spray adhesive to make sure they don't slide once you place them on the floor. Go slow, don't use too much paint so rub some off on a paper towel before you start. If you think your brush is too dry it is probably just right!
