I sometimes use sustained release in the spring when you first see them, usually I only do the ones that are newer and haven't reached maturity. Hostas seem to thrive no matter what , as long as they are happy with where they are planted.
Miracle grow works well for all plants. I try to do it once a week.
Try SuperThrive. Make sure to dilute it properly. Works great on everything for me.
a bag of composted cow manure from home depot would be good too. it's typically around $1.69 per a large bag 2 cu ft maybe.. its the one in the yellow bag.. and is also great to add around rose bushes and most other plants as well. Since it's already composted it won't burn the plants. Water the plants well first and then topdress and water again. We added it to the redclay soil in my mothers garden around her knockout roses and they've begun blooming their beautiful heads off!
I also use miracle grow liquid form...it also works best before planting anything to soak the soil with the miracle mixture and wait a day..then plant your seedlings....helps the plants/flowers thrive
