All soil has mold spores in it. Add water and the mold grows. What accelerates the growth is dark,and moist. I read on this site that sprinkling ground cinnamon on freshly seeded soil inhibits fungal (incl mold) growth. This is my first yr trying it. BTW, #1 cause of houseplant death is over-watering.
