Can i paint or stain over laminate flooring?

Stain has to be able to penetrate so that would not work. If you want to paint it degloss if it is shiny or slick then you can use a porch and floor paint. Whatever paint you use make sure it is formulated to be walked on. Check out brown paper bag floor... it is pretty cool and it might be another option for you.

I just painted the laminate flooring in my bathroom and I used porch and patio paint. It's great for high traffic areas. I painted them not even a week ago but so far, it's holding up.

You can't stain it cause its not real wood, its multi-level synthetic flooring with a photographic image of wood/stone applique beneath a clear protective layer.
