Depends upon your substrate, are you adhering glass to glass, pottery, wood, etc.? I use a product called Glass Metal & More for glass to glass (Beacon Adhesives) and had great success as long as you are working flat (not vertically). Mosaic Mercantile also has an adhesive that works fairly well for wood, metal, concrete, plaster, etc. And, of course, my favorite is good ole Aleene's Tacky glue for everything else. When in doubt use Aleene's.

I have had good luck using an adhesive thinset. You can pick this up premixed in a small tub at big box stores.
