use Winks rust remover for the hard water stains and if that doesn't work then softscrub
I use vinegar to help with hard water stains and chalk buildup.
If all else fails you could use an emery board (for nails) and nailvsrnish the colour of the top to be a filler. You will need to build this up if deep digs.

You could try baking soda, make a super gentle paste.
Step 1: Use a tiny amount of water and baking soda to make a thick paste. Step 2: Evenly spread the paste over the stain, then wrap it in plastic wrap. Third step: Give it a full day to settle. Using a moist cloth, remove the plastic and proceed to wipe off the paste.
