Planting a terrarium- Can anyone help with instructions?

I know there are instructions on line for doing this, but I would like to hear from a hometalker that has actually done it. I found a large glass bottle with a small opening, 1 1/2 inch. In a Maine winter it is nice to have something growing inside and I am tired of regular houseplants that shed leaves and flowers. Can anyone help?

I have done a few, in the long run some have not survived, but one has survived very well. I first put a layer of sand at the bottom, I then put a layer of small black pebbles and I planted some succulents and moss. I water it very, very sparingly when I remember (a little longer than one a week). Hope this helps.

Thanks a lot Ana. I was in the home yesterday, where I saw such a terrarium that was my inspiration and it looked to me like it was a jade plant and maybe something else? Why do you think the others did not survive? Mine would be indoors and maybe in a coolish temp. during the winter. I'll let you know how this turns out.
