The small bore of waste pipes used on toilets cause the most problems in my house. I finally found the best way to clear mine, thanks to friends. Wrap an old fashioned floor mop in a plastic bag. Wait until the water level drops as low as possible and put the wrapped mop into the toilet pan and pump it up and down to cause a vacumn effect; just remember to be fairly gentle so you don't get water or waste splashing out of the pan. The beauty of this method is that no chemicles need to be used, just dispose of the plastic bag carefully when you have done.

  • Pour in a liter or two of coke and let it sit for a half hour, then plunge and flush.

Home Depot and Lowes have videos online for unclogging using a "snake". We thought we were going to need a plumber until I watched a video on the right way to do it and we were able to unclog ours. We were also able to check online what stock the local stores had and which aisle and bin to go to. We picked up one of those hair tools at the same time, and I cleaned out our drains, too.
