Best way to Redo a concrete floor?

I want to know the best way to redo a concrete floor to either paint it or stain it so I can use it as an indoor outdoor with animals and not have to put more indoor outdoor carpet down what's the best thing that I can do and make it look nice

  • Provided the concrete is outside I would clean well, powerwash and let dry. Then stain or paint and seal if applicable. Then if you want something soft underfoot, you can always purchase indoor / outdoor rugs.

I made the prettiest floor using paper sacks. I 1st painted the floor blk but you can use brown as well & let that dry. Then tore up paper sacks to look like rocks. Mix 1/2 Elmers glue & 1/2 water to paint on the back side of the paper sacks. You then place them to look like stones laid in the floor & let dry. Once they are dry you can put polyurethane on them. I did a couple of coats. Sure made a pretty & durable floor. Mine has been down for over 20 yrs. If it gets marred up you can just redo a spot once in awhile. Very cheap & ppl have a hard time believing it's from paper sacks. I did an extra step w/mine...after 1st coat of polyurethane I used my ceramic paints & did a dry brush stroke to make it look like I had moss on some of mine then another coat of polyurethane. You might like it.

This is indoors. We were building our home & I was trying to save $ so instead of buying expensive tile I did this. It's gorgeous & wears well. I have retouched it up a couple of times because bringing wood in for the FP has scratched it in spots so just apply the paint again. It is a real conversation pc. I have it in front of the patio door & in the kitchen area downstairs in the basement. I had a pipe break once & flooded the floor & it ended up bringing some of the paperwork up so I just went in & replaced it w/the steps I mentioned above. Easy fix. I'm not sure how this would hold up outdoors & probably wouldn't but under cover it would probably do well. It was fun to do & you can use your own imagination for your own rocks. Mine was done on concrete that I painted then applied the paper sacks.
