The same thing happened to me. It's so odd to read this post today, because I just posted a question about how to hang drywall on the ceiling by yourself.....lol! So, that's my solution. I'm getting rid of all the squares as I slowly update my house. Good luck to you!
First I would test those tiles for asbestos, cause lots of the 70s are. Go to hardware or home store for test kit.
Are the tiles in a metal grid or fastened directly on the ceiling. If fastened on the ceiling they are probably glued with construction glue. Go to hardware store and they will fix you up. If they are in a metal grid, if they are still in good shape, just put them back in, tilting them to get them in, and then set down on the grid. If they are damaged take an old one to the home store, and try to find some that match closely.
Before I put them back up, check to see there is not a leak above.
