Antique dresser with cracked panels, how do I fix?

Purchased beautiful antique dresser with cracked panels--very noticeable. Filled in cracks with wood filler and sanded then stained as love grain to show thru. Grain shows thru but cracks & wood filler repair destroys beauty that the piece should have. Any suggestions to make her pretty again?

Where are the cracked panels? the sides or drawers? I would try to find some old wood panels to replace them. Or paint just those panels...
Minwax makes a stainable filler, might sand her down a bit, refill, and try staining again. If that fails, I would add some wood veneer to the panels and stain.
