Do you like the openess or are you wanting to make it more like the 2 separate rooms that it is? Maybe a shelf under the window with some plants on it and maybe some hanging as well... interior shutters....Cafe style curtains.....are you more rustic,contemporary,traditional?
Would something like this work? I have also seen pictures hung in columns which would cover more area.
If you need an extra long curtain rod look at pvc pipe (sanded to a mat finish and/or stained) or electrical conduit piping (tops out at 10ft and is heavier)
Use Hodge podge and lace to cover window light can still come thru and yet you have privacy. I did my kitchen window. Love it!

If money is not an issue, how about installing plantation shutters which you can open and close when you want.

I photo would be helpful but here an idea for you. You don't want to completely cover that window because it's the focal view towards your inclosed family room.
