Change any dim yellowed lighting for clearer white lights. It's amazing how much impact a change in lighting can provide. Give the room a deep cleaning getting into corners and crevices usually ignored. (How often do folks empty out a room top to bottom and clean everything?) Then evaluate what needs changing before replacing everything.
Changing your lighting to a more modern look or indirect lighting if a light room. Adding shelves or wicker above the toilet this can really change a small bathroom. I did this as I have a very small bathroom with an outside counter and two mirrors. I intend to take down one mirror and change the above 80's look to a more modern lighting. Simple tiles even stick on can change a wall or wall board or even floors. If a combo with bathtub even changing rods and curtains can help. Good Luck I'm sure what ever way you go you will be happy with the change.
