I think these will help! http://www.premierpond.com/turn-pond-pondless-waterfall-2/
The best way to do a pondless is with gravel or aquarium gravel. You can create your reservoir in the center of the pond put your pump in it then drill some holes in a sheet of heavy plastic to cover the reservoir. Then put your gravel on top. your flow of water will let you know when you need to fill the reservoir and all you have to do is run a hose over the gravel! You will not get the algae or the smell!!
If you already have the waterfall and the pump, you don't need anything different to go pondless just ensure that your reservoir is large enough to handle the flow rate of the pumP.
