Galvanized pipe is only good for 10 years, Water creates a caking process inside , restricts the flow of water. Use copper but if you have a high iron content in your water you can't . Use either PVC, CPVC or Pex. Good Luck.
If you got 50 years out of galvanized, you're lucky. Sounds like it's time to retire it.

You can't fix galvanized pipe -- anything you use to "coat" it would be in your water supply and would be very temporary. You need to replace it, otherwise it will leak again.
