Have some '70's tiles randomly placed in my kitchen backsplash. Is there a method I can use to paint over them? Ideas?
i didn't spray paint mine, but did hand paint with a pewter paint....handles hibges and even the screen windows got painted....7 months on, no chips or issues. I just cleaned (decreased) them well before painting....saved a HUGE amount of money by not replacing everything
I'd soak them in a TSP/water mixture to get off all the grease. Then spray paint in whatever color you choose.
Since you don't need to get down to the base metal, I agree that soaking them in a good degreaser is the best idea. Maybe a little light sanding with metal-use sand paper to help the new paint stick. Rustoleum makes a bunch of really nice metallic paints that may go with your décor.
Definitely deep clean. I used spray paint, several light coats. Use high quality brand however you apply it.
I used Krudkutter as I had already purchased that to degrease the cabinets before chalk painting them, but have since seen various diy recipes on Pinterest. I will say that the krudkutter worked a treat though.
We started with hot water and Dawn in the sink, then they went into the dishwasher.
(we should've primered our cabinets though.)
