How do you get rid of monkey grass?

Question

We have a large area of monkey grass and for some reason it is dying. We thought we would take it all out and sod the area but I don't want to keep pulling out the monkey grass while the new grass try's to take hold. It is on a slope with two poplars and one empress tree which may be what is killing it out?

roundup with a small amount of dish liquid so it will stick to grass

Can kill with Roundup, then wait about two weeks , remove dead grass , rough up ground about two inches deep and install sod. Fertilize after about a week and water every day. However, consider that if monkey grass did not grow, sod may not either! If limbs on tree are too low and creating too much shade, trim them up high to allow more sun.
