With porcelain, the pattern or color goes all the way down thru the tile, so, if it chips or gets a little scraped... it won't look terrible. With ceramic tile, the pattern/color is only on the top. If it chips or scrapes, you'll see the brown which goes all the way down thru the tile. So...brown spots with $2 tile. If you plan on living there for years, go for the porcelain, especially if kids, toys, or dogs around. If for a short time, then maybe the $2 ceramic.
no and its easier to clean, i am a retired contractor and have used both-- save your money
How much would wood cost?
Porcelain tile is more durable, in my opinion. If you chip ceramic tile, it is a pain to carefully remove and replace. Porcelain tile at $4 a square foot is a deal in my world, make sure they are not trying to sell you "seconds" - purchase from a reputable dealer / manufacturer.
I agree with Patricia , its really hard to chip ceramic tile . It's more economical and easier to maintain .
We used ceramic and it has held up great. I think the difference is if you chip it, porcelains color goes throughout the tile whereas ceramic is on the surface.
