On the chance you are a teacher trying to set up a box for many pencils, I have a couple of suggestions, based on my many years of teaching. 1. If you plan on having children work in groups of four, for instance, buy the $1 plastic supply boxes at Walmart, etc. Put three of each color of pencils in each box. 2. On the other hand, if you have fewer than 60 or so pencils, at Dollar Tree or The Dollar Store or similar buy plastic silverware trays with straight sides, not in the shape of spoons and forks. 3. Another good box is a cigar box, made of hard cardboard. You can glue in cardboard dividers. The tobacco stores probably have them to give away if you ask. Best wishes 😇
Don't know the size of the box you are using. Are you trying to lay the colored pencils down or stand them up.? Either way you could take pieces of cardboard and cut into strips. After cutting the strips, could cut a splits on the side of some of them. Then slide the piece of cardboard with the slits on it down onto the other strips of cardboard that do not have strips cut onto them. Make sure the cardboard pieces run the opposite way of each other. That way when you place one over the other, you are making it look like a tic tac toe board with individual little squares. Then place your pencils inside the little squares.
Or just glue dividers into the box
Have you ever seen an ice cube tray? Same principle, only the dividers have the small 'hang over the edge' piece to keep everything where it belongs, but allow the lid to stay on if you want it there. Have fun crafting!
If you want to stand them up, and maybe divide by color groupings, use toilet tissue cores. Depending on length of pencils and depth of box, you may adjust length of tube. Stand them up in box. I would secure a row against the box edge, with hot glue, then attach each core as I placed it. For "cute," lightly spray with a burst of paint.
