For coats, could you mount a simple board painted to match your trim, and add some pretty hooks for guests' coats?
Get a console table to go behind your sofa, add decor. Below the console, get bakets that fit for throws, magazines, etc. For coats, either get a board with hooks attached and mount on the wall or a free standing coat rack. You have a lot of space, so get a decent sized coffee table. Add a few low light houseplants, like peace lily.
Hi Karen - perhaps something like this may be suitable? Because I am sure that you wouldn't want coats and items similar to be 'on show' and I thought this sort of style might be what you could look for? At least they would be hidden in something like this. You could always perhaps paint it in a colour of your choice or leave it white if you wish?

maybe get a wardrobe and paint it to your tastes. An older one. You can hang jackets but have drawers for throws and such.
A nice armoire or wardrobe on wall near outside door will avoid that messy, cluttered look of having coats hanging up plus you can store shoes in it. The wall behind sofa might suit shelving if you like to display many things. Or perhaps a game table for cards and such if you're into those. A coffee table with ottomans tucked under would give you extra seating if you need it.
I love the idea of an armoire for your coats. Place the armoire on the wall next to the door so it's quickly and easily accessible and add artificial plants in wicker baskets on top of the armoire. Turn the couch at a slight angle, like your chair, to add depth and create more of a cozy space, too. A coffee table could be put "in between" but in front of both the chair and couch so all could reach it. Or use an old trunk for a coffee table and store blankets, etc inside the trunk. Behind your couch butting up against it, I'd put a desk with a lamp on it for a nice office area, if you need one. I also like the idea of a console or table with chairs for a game area. I use cubicles with wicker storage bins for all our office and computer needs and they create a nice clean organized look, while adding warmth from the wicker. Place those along the walls around and behind the desk/console/game area (whatever you choose to put behind your couch). Those cubicles add so much storage. Best wishes!
