How to repair wooden chairs?

I have some pine kitchen chairs and the legs are wobbly. They have been glued so many times, I can't apply anymore glue. How can I fix them?

Remove the seats if they are screwed on. Often there are corner brackets underneath the seat. Then take a mallet and carefully knock apart the bottom and back & leg supports. Often you can get buy with just separating the cross supports. Then clean up the dowels & the holes in the joints, & if the dowel joints are somewhat tight clue and clamp them back together with Elmers or "white" glue. . If the chair is relatively straight, you can likely use a ratchet strap to hold it together til the glue drys. Then you should be good for another 20 years.

P.S If the dowel joints are loose, put a "toothpick size" sliver of wood in the hole along side where the dowel goes in. Once you have done one the rest are easy.

Another good product to try, especially if there are dowels, is Chair-loc (which I'm not sure is made anymore, but there are others like it such as Swel-lock). This swells the wood and helps tighten the joint. Good luck!
