I am looking for some suggestion on what I should do with my buffet

KathrynElizabeth Etier on Feb 06, 2014With the details, this is a great candidate for painting, using complementary colors. Or painting and using wallpaper on the inside "panels".Helpful Reply

Linda@nothingbutblueskyes on Feb 07, 2014So much great 'architecture' -- make sure if you paint that you highlight the trim - either with a different color or by sanding or masking the trim and letting it stand out. It's a lovely piece with loads of potential!Helpful Reply

117135 on Feb 07, 2014Restore the top to its natural wood and stain in a dark color. Paint the bottom with a great neutral color or light tone and use a dark glaze of dark wax to bring out the accents and trim.Helpful Reply

Bernice H on Feb 08, 2014Nikki, did you see the piece similar to yours, painted in glossy black? It is so elegant and classy. She used oil paint ..and explained why. You might check it out to see if you like it. I see so much shabby chippy stuff lately, and this is so beautiful.Helpful Reply

Katie on Feb 08, 2014I would clean and sand it first. Then you might consider painting it the same colour as chairs, staining the top of it. You might consider a matte finish, rather than glossy. It's a little less formal looking that way. You may want to paint the mirror overtop as well.Helpful Reply

Linda on Feb 08, 2014I would definitely paint it, in a color you love. I had an 80's bookcase and an oak display cabinet, which I painted to match my new craft room, it was hard to put the first paint on but I love them now and before they was just so-so. I am in love with turquoise right now but what ever is going to make you happy is the advice I always give my friends. I put liquid sandpaper on to dissolve the finish, was so easy, just "painted" it on with a brush and they were ready to paint. Good luck be sure to post your results!Helpful Reply

Jennifer @ Decorated Chaos on Feb 08, 2014I would hesitate on painting it since it is in such good shape. I love the look of a painted piece of furniture, HOWEVER, your wood is in good shape so my suggestion would be to clean it up, restore the finish, and then for some added pizzaz I would change out the knobs/handles or give the existing ones an update with paint or rub-n-buff.Helpful Reply

Opal on Feb 08, 2014I would also hesitate to paint. I would clean up and restore the finish and then stain the rims a different color to accent the great lines of this piece. If you are looking for more color and are on the fence about painting, maybe change out some of the accessories for stronger colors. The existing color would look great with bolder jewel tone colors.Helpful Reply

Nancy Hatcher on Feb 09, 2014It looks like some of the accent trim on the bottom doors are missing. I would remove the rest of the trim on just the bottom doors and refinish using a wood stain that would match the rest of your furniture. It has beautiful lines!Helpful Reply

BeBetsy on Feb 09, 2014My sister received a furniture piece just like this from my grandmother. It was in excellent condition so she replaced the top with a beautiful piece of green marble - OMG beautiful!Helpful Reply

Colleen on Feb 09, 2014Do you know where you'll put this when done(Kitchen, Living room, Bathroom)? I like the idea of replacing the top with marble, and staining the wood a dark stain, then buff up the hardware. This looks like it'll be an amazing piece.Helpful Reply

Mabeline on Feb 15, 2014I would restore, but accentuate the raised line detail on the front of each drawer, making the details pop and more interesting. It is a beautiful buffet.Helpful Reply

Joyce Nelson Shellhart on Feb 16, 2014Look for a counter top installer in your area. You could be surprised at the deal you might get for a "cast off" piece of stone...also check for a building material recycler in your area.Helpful Reply

Sandra Hellewell on Mar 27, 2014Your buffet is lovely! I would use Restore-A-Finish on it & then wax & buff it. I think you'd be surprised with the results! I would NOT change the handles as they make the piece!! I might spray paint them gold & then when dry do a very light spray of silver paint on top just to vary the color a bit. Also I would paint the mirror so you have some contrast with the buffet. Right now, it all kind of blends because it's all the same! Good Luck!!Helpful Reply

MaryAnn B on Jul 23, 2014My opinion, since I own some similar to this. Briwax makes a product that is colored. it will cover the imperfections. first go over the scratched spots with Minwax colored pen, look in the paint store for this then wax. Only paint if you like the look.Helpful Reply

Patches on Jul 24, 2014This is a really fine looking piece! It would be gorgeous if you could restore it so the grain of the wood shows up. But that's just me because I love period furniture.Helpful Reply
