take the lamp apart clean the parts to be painted. Rough up with a light sand paper spray with a primer, then color , then a clear polyurethane top coat. Let dry throughly between coats. Put your lamp back together. Taking photos as you take it apart helps you remember how it was put together. I have painted lamps and light fixtures. Adds new life to old stuff for just a little money

Hi, I would try spray paint (not the satin finish) in a flat brown. Spray paints have come a long way and can provide an even, beautiful finish. Just tape off the area you do not want to get sprayed and then spray - it is best to do multiple thin coats. Don't forget to do this in a well ventilated area.
Try Acrylic Paint first or what about Fabric?
