We just found out we have chipmunks also!! They are cute but they can be destructive. When I looked online I saw that you can use live bait traps then remove them a couple miles from your area. That is what we are going to use, otherwise the other options seemed too extreme for us. We are going to cut our vegetation near the house cause they use that coverage to their many exit holes.
This works for chippers & mice! Take a 5 gallon bucket & a piece of wood to build a ramp up to the bucket. Place "bait" such as cheese crackers or peanuts in the bucket. The critters will climb the ramp for the food, fall into the bucket & can't climb out because the surface is smooth! Then you take the bucket full of critters & release them in the woods! Some people put water in the bucket to drown them but I'm an animal lover & the thought sickens me! They can be very destructive but they are just looking for food! Good luck!
